Disney’s Memory Maker Photo Package

Update December 2015:

The price for the advance-purchase Memory Maker product (which does not include photos taken within three days of purchase) is now $149. The price for the standard Memory Maker product (which can be used immediately upon purchase) is now $169.

On our most recent trip to Walt Disney World, we decided to purchase Disney’s Memory Maker Photo Package. This package gives you access to all your photos taken at Walt Disney World that Disney PhotoPass photographers take.  It also gives you photos and videos from several attractions and even dining photos at selected restaurants.  The package price is a bit steep, but let’s dive deeper in the price and see if it makes sense for you and your family. The price when we got it was $199, but if you purchase the package at least 3 days in advance you save $30, bringing the price down to $169. Still a lot, right? Well now let’s put this into perspective of purchasing a few photos from Disney.

For that same $169, you could get eleven 5×7 photos at $14.99 each, or just nine 8×10 photos at $17.99 each. So how did we do? In four and a half days at the parks, we were able to take nearly 450 pictures.  We got just over 400 “normal” photos of our family, nearly 40 Magic Shots (read more and see our Magic Shots), and nearly 250 stock photos as well.  We also were able to get three videos (see the two ride videos below) which you would never be able to capture yourself.  So if you break down the 450 photos, that comes out to around $0.37 per photo and that doesn’t include the stock photos.  Yes, there are some photos we wouldn’t have bought, but even if we like 50% of the photos (we liked probably close to 75%), we still would end up with 225 photos we like and pay less than $0.75 per photo.

  • If you are like us and continuing to plan things to the last minute, here is how the “three days’ advance purchase” works.  If you order the package on let’s say Wednesday, you will be able to get photos starting on Saturday.  We ended up ordering the package around 10pm on Wednesday and were able to get the photos we took in the park on Saturday. I’m not sure what time zone they use, but to be safe, I would order by midnight Eastern Time zone since Walt Disney World is located in that time zone.
  • Don’t forget to download the Photo Release form so if you want to have these printed locally, you have permission from Disney.
  • Disney PhotoPass® photos, dining photos and attraction photos in your account will expire 45 days from the date the photo was taken. If you would like to extend the expiration date to 60 days from the date the photo was taken, you may purchase an expiration extension. All photos in your account as of the day the expiration extension is purchased will now expire 60 days from the date the photo was taken (instead of 45 days).
  • You can not only download your own Disney PhotoPass photos, but also those of Family & Friends who share media with you. So with just one purchase of Memory Maker, you could get all the Disney PhotoPass photos of everyone in your travel party.
  • A MagicBand is required to receive certain attraction photos and other digital content.
  • If Memory Maker is purchased at the advance purchase price, then the Memory Maker window begins three (3) days after the date Memory Maker was purchased.  If Memory Maker was purchased at the regular price, then the Memory Maker window begins the date your first photo is captured and includes all visible photos in your account at the time Memory Maker is purchased. The Memory Maker window ends on the 30th day at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time following the date (1) of purchase for purchases made in the Mobile App, and (2) any photo is first downloaded or you redeem your Memory Maker entitlement, whichever occurs first, for all other purchases. All photos taken outside of your Memory Maker window must be purchased separately.
